At the moment i'am a electronic engineering student and want to built a data-logger with a raspberry pi 3. I try to follow TiN' s procedure. Can anyone help me and can give me a advice what i have to do whit the Kernel in cases of a raspberry pi 3? In relation to this command -> apt-get install linux-image-rpi-rpfv hi, you can just use automated script your english just fine :) Automated install is simple Get stock Raspbian image for your Pi boot it, make sure you have internet on pi run: curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/PlesaEEVBlog/RPi_LogNut/master/Install_GPIB_Support.sh | sudo bash Very encouraging from you :-) this will get you everything installed and up for GPIB on your Pi at least it worked for many of us :) That was what i had try. This is the automated install from Plesa. Right? plesa from EEVBlog is the maintainer, right. if you use NI GPIB-USB-HS or Agilent 82357B (even fake one), all should fly out of the box. I can help you more in few hours, going out for dinner now * You are now known as TiN_eats Okay, i want to try it a second time. I use the Agilent 82357B. Thank you so much. Want to see you later. Enjoy your meal :-) * Lord-Ekel (bc6e7b7c@xdevs-3DDBC806.ip-87-98-219.eu) has joined * Lord_Ekel has quit (Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client) * Lord-Ekel has quit (Ping timeout: 583 seconds) * Lord-Ekel (bc6e7b7c@xdevs-3DDBC806.ip-87-98-219.eu) has joined * Lord-Ekel has quit (Broken pipe) * Lord-Ekel (bc6e7b7c@xdevs-3DDBC806.ip-87-98-219.eu) has joined * Lord-Ekel has quit (Broken pipe) * You are now known as TiN * NickServ sets mode +r on TiN * Lord-Ekel (bc6e7b7c@xdevs-3DDBC806.ip-87-98-219.eu) has joined * Lord_Ekel (bc6e7b7c@xdevs-3DDBC806.ip-87-98-219.eu) has joined * Lord-Ekel has quit (Broken pipe) * Lord_Ekel (bc6e7b7c@xdevs-3DDBC806.ip-87-98-219.eu) has left * Lord-Ekel (bc6e7b7c@xdevs-3DDBC806.ip-87-98-219.eu) has joined * TiN gives voice to Lord-Ekel Hi TiN! I also be back. Do you have a few minutes? :-) What does the +v Mode meaning? :) that you are VIP now :D Nice. Thank you :-) did you get Pi working? I had tried Plesas suggestion a secound time at my Jessie system. But it doesnt work right now. All 3 light of the 82357B are shining. what is lsusb output? * Lord-Ekel has quit (Ping timeout: 580 seconds) * Lord-Ekel (bc6e7b7c@xdevs-3DDBC806.ip-87-98-219.eu) has joined I? back from Raspberry :-) :) lsusb output? what is IRC program on Pi? :D I'd like to use too. But i have no GUI on my Pi's, only CLI https://thepasteb.in/p/oYhl381zlR5HZ running headless lsmod? you can paste in IRC directly run ldconfig and gpib_config did you check /etc/gpib.conf? should have agilent line in there. board_type = "agilent_82357a" Module Size Used by bnep 12051 2 hci_uart 20020 1 btbcm 7916 1 hci_uart bluetooth 365511 22 hci_uart,bnep,btbcm agilent_82357a 21069 0 gpib_common 37766 1 agilent_82357a evdev 12423 2 joydev 9988 0 hid_logitech_hidpp 20558 0 brcmfmac 222874 0 brcmutil 9092 1 brcmfmac cfg80211 543027 1 brcmfmac hid_logitech_dj 12173 0 rfkill 20851 4 bluetooth,cfg80211 snd_bcm2835 24427 1 snd_pcm 98501 1 snd_bcm2835 snd_timer 23968 1 snd_pcm snd 70032 5 snd_timer,snd_bcm2835,snd_pcm bcm2835_gpiomem 3940 0 uio_pdrv_genirq 3923 0 uio 10204 1 uio_pdrv_genirq fixed 3285 0 i2c_dev 6913 0 fuse 99603 3 ipv6 408971 66 sorry i? an absolutely rookie :-) what is board type in /etc/gpib.conf? * pitagoras_ has quit (Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. And now i have to reboot the system? And then? module is same for a and b so you need use config a you dont have to reboot just rerun gpib_config You are helping me a lot. Iḿ so happy about it. Thank you so much! Works well. For the first time only one green diode is shining :-D But what are the next steps for me? I connected the adapter to a Agilent 34401A follow after me ibtest press d enter number of GPIB address of your 34401a press w enter *IDN? press enter press r enter enjoyski :) maky sure 34401a config is set to GPIB i think it have rs232 too, so might need switch to GPIB to be active i don't have 34401 so don't remember iḿ absolutely faszinated. Agilent make a BEEB :D he's angry at you ) Yes it has rs232 also haha but it shows a "error" in the display try same but with *IDN?\n instead Okay. I try it. But i am not the fastest :P it's not that hard what is your study? I could use some help on projects, if you have too much time, haha * pitagoras (textual@xdevs-A8294BD8.fibertel.com.ar) has joined i study general electronics haha pitagoras is just in time for some english-speaking chat this time) i begun my thesis last monday. And one of the topics is to log some voltages via gpib. be very very careful so, i try it a second time to communicate with "him" :D what exactly do you mean? these are very dangrous waters. you might log some voltage of 34401. then you wonder why voltage reading not very stable...then you try find better source....than you find better meter......then you find second meter to check the first meter and source.....then you get better resistors to make current measurements...some resistor I got cost 250$USD/1 piece...... and then...well, you might end up like me: https://xdevs.com/doc/xDevs.com/in tro_pic.jpg . And this is not even 50% of the stuff I bought :( https://xdevs.com/doc/xDevs.com/intro_pic.jpg hahaha looks like fun :D mhm try not to look on the prices of those meters though. i comfort myself that these are "capital deposit investments" the Agilent is only a trial if it works and to learn some stuff. :D its often the case that prices of high-end equipment only go up in price with time Later i want to log another DMM over long time to watch at some drifting. given you can prove it's working well and stable! :D well, for that you need a source which is more stable 34401 than* which does not leave you a lot of choices really I used python to capture data over GPIB in Pi you can reference some code in here: https://xdevs.com/article/hp3458a_gpib/ thats what i want to do also this is for HP 3458A, but you should be able o get the idea thank you for the link helps a lot I've learned python (well, 0.000001% of it) just when I was starting like you few years ago, looking for ways to log data from GPIB in my Pi and for stable sources, you can't get much better than this little thing : https://xdevs.com/article/kx-ref/ at the moment i don have any experience with python. But this shall change :D unless you really want to spend $$$$ for multiple references you can use C and gcc too and other languages in linux-gpib package there are examples. However i found python working great, because it already have many libraries to support upload to FTP, to plot graphs, to process CSV, and do all other crazy sh1t quickly I setup Pi's to log data into file, then upload that file every 5 minutes into my FTP, and then Javascript on my site eat data and plot SVG graph on special page like this: https://xdevs.com/k2400_test3/ Your projects looks very interesting. You have my absolutely recognition for your knowledge and what your able to do :-) so i can see data coming even when I'm at work :) I didn't do much, just slacking too much! basically you can just click on every article on site, and you will quickly understand why this is dangerous did you get read data from 34401? is there any possibility to save the chat history? Itś so helpful for me
